Peacethread2 introduces The F.Word…
We are delighted to have been supported by the Community Development Fund in delivering Peacethread2 in February 2011. This year’s project will centre on forgiveness. 30 young people will meet together for Peacethread2 at Holton Lee, near Poole in Dorset, to engage in conversation about forgiveness.
Our focus will be on The Forgiveness Project’s excellent F. Word exhibition (http://theforgivenessproject.com). The exhibition tells the stories of people from around the world who have engaged with the concept of forgiveness. One of the stories in the exhibition is that of Camilla Carr and her partner Jon James who were kidnapped by terrorists in Chechnya in 1997. We are delighted that Camilla and Jon will be joining us at the Peacethread conference, speaking about how forgiveness was part of coping with their experiences.
We are also pleased to welcome Rabbi Neil Amswych from Bournemouth Reform Synagogue, Jafar Mirza from Faith and Belief in Further Education, David Warden from the Dorset Humanist Society, Tom Sanders from Poole and Wimborne Quakers and Margaret and Mel Durrant from St Mary’s Church, Sixpenny Handley.
Three Dorset schools will be involved; Poole High School, Purbeck School and Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne. The first seminar went well this morning in Purbeck School; the year 12 Philosophy and Ethics group grappled with The F. Word, the forgivable and unforgivable, the mundane and the intense and how forgiveness plays a part in the promotion of peace.
