The Peacethread participants met for the final seminar during March. The conversations focused on ways in which action groups could be developed to initiate change or raise awareness of issues promoting peace (Shalom!) in the schools or college communities.
There were some fascinating ideas – some students were interested in looking into issues of prejudice and discrimination in the local area. There was an interest in investigating the policies of the BNP especially in light of the General Election and first time voters. Some of the students were keen to raise awareness of issues the BNP promote to develop young people’s understanding of what is really being said.
Other ideas focused on fund raising and assemblies for younger students on the situation in Israel and Palestine. The students felt that they wanted to inform other members of their school/college to enable them to develop their own view on the issues.
By the way, anyone got any ideas for the International Day of Peace on 21st September?
