The first Peacethread seminars went very well at Lytchett Minster and Highcliffe schools on Monday and Tuesday this week. We were very impressed by the creativity of the students as they became graffiti artists on the theme of war and peace (or is it ‘wall and piece’ to quote Banksy!)
Having scoured the newspapers for words and pictures associated with conflict and peace making the students worked in groups to suggest captions for some images drawn in Bethlehem by Banksy. Here’s a taste of what they came up with:
‘Bob was going to need a bigger pair of scissors’
‘Straight from the donkey’s mouth’
Following a very potted history of Israel/ Palestine the students worked in groups as the new Banksy to express their own wall message, these will be on display at the conference on Tuesday 2nd February at Poole lighthouse.
Finally, there has been quite a lot of coverage of the situation in Israel/ Palestine on the TV: Ross Kemp in Gaza and Israel, Panarama – a walk in the park. Interesting viewing.
So, will the real peacemakers please stand up?
